Course: GHP-DOM-101 · Estimated study time: 45–60 minutes · Module 3 of 7

Configure and verify custom domains and DNS: a five-step labeled conceptual process diagram, with a visible illustration disclaimer.
Skunkworks Academy visual learning aid. Conceptual diagram — not a screenshot of a live system. Confirm actual interface labels against current vendor documentation.
Illustrative mock interface: a schematic DNS provider record editor displaying name and target fields; example only, not a real screenshot.
Illustrative mock interface, not a live GitHub or DNS-provider screenshot. Exact menu names may differ; validate in the official vendor documentation.

Measurable learning outcomes

By the end of this module, the learner should be able to:

  • Explain the difference between an apex and subdomain DNS configuration.
  • Map a training subdomain CNAME to the organization github.io host without a repository suffix.
  • Verify organization domain ownership and record DNS resolution evidence.

Practical deliverable: Plan a nonproduction subdomain change. Record the old zone state, TTL, GitHub Pages custom-domain association, authoritative nameservers and before/after resolver outputs. If DNS permissions are unavailable, use documented simulation values and label the result as simulated.
